重案组帮办麦守正在一次案件中，免费认识了愤怒青年曾荣泰，免费守正劝导荣泰改变过往颓废作风，投考警员。成为警员的荣泰因表现良好，很快获得晋升为CID。守正见荣泰脱胎换骨，顿时惺惺相惜，于是提拔他入重案组，两人拍档查案，出生入死。可惜后来两人一同爱上富家女原思敏，为此两人心存芥蒂。同时，心理辅导员林婉真亦暗恋荣泰，形成复杂的四角关系。荣泰一心向上爬，刻意表现自己，同时又巴结上司，最终他得偿所愿，被提升为重案组督察。守正因看不惯荣泰这种作风，渐渐与他疏远。后来，在一宗名流丑闻案里，荣泰牵涉在内，弄至身败名裂……
