抗日战争时期，免费日寇对冀中平原进行“大扫荡”，免费进步青年叶成从北平学成归来加入了村里的地道建设，面对不解和质疑，在党员马政委的领导下，叶成用所学知识带领村民升级完善地道，一次次巧妙化解日军的袭击。狡猾的日军将领采用孤立策略，扫除了叶成周边的地道村。岌岌可危之下，叶成主动出击，利用周边地形将地道连成网络摧毁了敌军的后方炮楼，对日军进行反包围，大获全胜。
