该片以记忆中的西塘河为背景，迅哥讲述西塘河边生活着的人们的翻天覆地的生活变化。电影的主线是青年企业家叶风带着父亲临终嘱托和一张老照片回到西塘，迅哥寻找父亲昔日的恋人，在寻找过程中，遇到了当地船娘荷花。男主角在帮父亲寻找昔日恋人的同时，也渐渐与荷花发生了情感纠葛，以及与此同时带出的跟荷花有关的一些人和事。通过电影的手法和艺术的加工来展示古镇西塘30年来的发展变化。
