It is not an easy job but, as Taste of Hope carefully and precisely shows, there is still a lot that can be done if we change our relationship to production and labor. Instead of making grand gestures or political statements, the filmmaker works with the camera and with a thoughtful editing in order to understand how to weave together new possibilities of communal existence. The result is a superbly crafted observational exercise. A little manual of self-defense and resistance in the face of a neoliberalism that wishes for workers to keep their heads down. A taste of hope indeed.
回复 :1980年代初的上海，年轻人恋爱虽谈得自由，但一说到结婚，女方家长尤其未来的丈母娘就会过来干涉：若是准女婿连合计64条腿的高档家具和一台彩色电视机都拿不出，还是趁早别打她家姑娘主意的好。魏婶（程素琴）就是这样一位家长，她家有女玉华（陈燕华）和玉婷（徐幸），前者马上要与药店营业员何志（马晓伟）结婚，后者正与电器修理工田建（李建华）热恋，准备不日结婚。某日魏婶去何志新屋检查他的婚前准备工作，见一切妥当，欢喜之心溢于言表，一旁提心吊胆的何志却只能暗中叫苦：买家具已花掉了他的全部积蓄，彩电是借朋友的500块钱才买到的。但这些显然不能将魏婶满足，不久她要何志在结婚当日用两辆轿车迎娶玉华，喜宴也要在高档饭店摆上八大桌（其时规格已是相当高），为的是比过邻居嫁女，玉华同她一样，也很要面子，认为既然自己长得比别人漂亮，婚礼的排场自然要更讲究些。何志一时更上一“愁”楼。对于结婚，玉婷有不同看法，她认为羊毛出在羊身上，两个要结婚的人更应该为未来打算。这些自然被魏婶认作歪理，她提出去田建家看看，并放言若是没有像样的家具，趁早放弃玉婷。玉婷喊田建用手里的500块钱买套实用的家具，她不知田建早点头让同事大李（何建国）把钱借给了急于应对丈母娘的朋友——何志。大李怕田建与玉婷拜拜，和同事小黄（姚培德）去问何志要债，何志自然拿不出。小黄是个机灵鬼，相出借何志家具应对的方案。何志与玉华结婚当天亦是魏婶去田建家检查的日子，结果两边都出了大漏子。
