大中华搪瓷厂生产了一种不碎搪瓷新产品，国庆为了大量供应市场需要，国庆全厂职工突击用25天扩建一座自动窑，这一天职工派人去东城区“报喜大会”报告本厂还有六天时间的工程，自动窑就可扩建完工。在大会上，东城区工人业余剧团还要演出节目。搪瓷厂仓库保管员老董是业余剧团的积极分子，他给修自动窑的工人发完了最后一批耐火砖，然后来到工人文化宫准备演出。然而在大跃进年代很多事都出人意料，搪瓷厂职工开了会要把六天完成自动窑修建工程提早到一天一夜，争取“七一”向党的生日献礼，工人们派老张头找老董开仓库领出所分耐火砖，老张头赶到文化宫后台，一看老董正扮着萧何月下追韩信，老董听到老张头告诉的厂里消息，急于回厂，可是如果这样戏就演不成了，正在此时京剧团名演员刘鸿奎自告奋勇代替老董演出才算把问题解决了
